the Work

Choosing the song was always harder than making the design. The Always Summer Poster Show was a tentpole event for AIGA Jacksonville—a submission-based exhibition where designers interpreted their personal “song of the summer” as a single piece of work. Staged as a one-night-only celebration with live music, free drinks, and a people’s-choice winner, it felt less like a formal competition and more like a shared snapshot of where everyone was, musically and creatively, in that moment.

I participated for many years as a non-competing board member, which allowed me to linger in the part of the process I loved most: sitting with a song, unpacking why it resonated with me personally, and letting that feeling dictate the visual approach. The posters were built primarily in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, with occasional silkscreen production when the concept called for something more tactile—but the real reward was always the same: translating a piece of music that meant something to me into a visual form that felt equally honest.
